ds possible food poisoning - freaking me out a little

Postby Ruth » Thu Feb 02, 2012 8:42 pm

I can't remember the last time ds threw up. But, tonight he came in my office and said he didn't feel well. I asked him if he thought he was going to throw up and he ran to the bathroom. Now he is laying in bed shaking. His temp is about 98.5.

I'm pretty sure it is food poisoning because of how fast it came on. And, dd made him a b-day cake LAST FRIDAY and he ate a piece tonight about 1/2 hour before he threw up. Part of the icing was made with heavy cream - ugh. Poor kid.

But, I'm a little freaked out because ds does not usually have these types of issues. Please pray he gets a good nights rest.

Thanks

Tell your son to let his stomach rest by not eating or drinking anything for two hours after vomiting. He may SIP tiny bits of water but very small sips until the 2 hours passes. Then he can start small with something bland.

Praying.

Well, I have to tell you that David NEVER has gotten any gastro-bug that is going around, ever ever ever--and it came on so suddenly. It was the sickest he has ever been.

Because he had it, Madeleine had it, and my dil had it, I was living with disposable gloves while I was cleaning up after them. Also used some natural disinfectant.

We are going on about 1/2 hour now and the activated charcoal pill I gave him is staying down. I've been giving him sips of water.

His shivering is slowing down but his temp is rising now.

I just have a sneaking suspicion the frosting on the cake went bad.

Honestly, with the fever I'm thinking it's the gastro-bug. Was the cake refrigerated?

No, the cake was not refrigerated.

Both my brother the MD and my sister the PHD nurse say that fever and chills can accompany food poisoning. They both say that many of the stomach flu illnesses are really food poisoning.

Well...more vomiting. I think this is going to be a looooonnnngggg night.

Yes, fever and chills can come with that. And many cases of the 'flu bug' are food-borne illness. When David was sick I didn't think it was possible for anyone to vomit that many times. :eek

Bet that cake will be thrown away.

Well, in a way the cake was thrown away - ds ate the last piece.

HOWEVER (and this may be gross to some), I noticed that there was an undigested pickle from his lunch in the last round. So, it may have been something from his lunch that was bad.

No more vomiting last night, but he still has a fever and a headache.

I think I will stay home with him today.

Weird about the pickle. I would have thought it was digested a while ago. Hope he continues to feel better (glad he's stopped vomiting).
