Been away for quite a while.

Postby Saemommi » Mon May 23, 2011 12:52 pm

Hello, my name is Sarah.
I am married and have 2 boys, Dominick and Patrick. Dominick is one year old and Patrick is one month old.
I am blessed to be able to be a stay-@-home mom, which gives me a great opportunity to homeschool both of my boys. I know it's still early to think about curriculum, but i am. I also want to work with my toddler on some things even though he is little ( its never to early to learn), but mainly just the basics : colors, shapes, objects, places, little words, etc. And maybe some grammar and manners to used them ;). And I need conjure up some ideas for the future.
My in-laws speak Spanish so the boys are going to be bilingual and I want them to get a good head start on English to avoid confusion in the future.

I was home schooled myself and 7 of my siblings (some of you may know my mother, Sharon R.). A few of my siblings and I used to be members on here back in the day, I think I was 11 or 12.
I'm 20 now... After I got my diploma I started a family so I didn't go to college, though I would still like to take some courses while the boys are still little. Math is not one my strong points and I would like to help them out when the time comes.

Anyways... That's that... I wanna learn a thing or two about teaching my own boys lol so I'm all ears :)

-Sarah

Welcome home to the Swap! Always glad to have second-generation Swappies come back to explore their options. I started thinking about homeschooling long before my two guys were ready, too. Now's the time to read the various philosophies of homeschooling, decide what varieties may fit you and your family, and start preparing your children's library. Establishing good frugal habits in your household to enable you to stay home is important, too, but you already know that.

WELCOME & please come as often as your time will allow. Starting the thought on homeschooling can take many years to get a good idea what you want... then you might change your mind. :)

Hi!
My son was bilingual as a preschooler. You don't need to worry about starting one language before the other. He learned both at the same time and never confused them except for the words water and agua became wagua. That was partially because he had trouble with combining both vowels and consonants :)
He never confused to who to speak each language, either. I was in awe.

And, yes, I did say he "WAS" bilingual...when he was 5yo he heard a neighbor boy say it was embarrassing to speak Spanish and that was also the time when he stopped spending the weekends with my parents. So he stopped speaking it. I still spoke to him in Spanish occasionally, but I did not require he respond in Spanish.

SayeSaye!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!! I want to hug you right now!!! I MISS YOU!!!

Correction: WE LOVE YOU!!!! We want to hug you right now!!! WE MISS YOU!!!

Sarahhhhhhhhhhh--how did you get so grown up? :heart :heart :heart :heart :heart :heart

Our oldest, Marisa, was bilingual as a child until kids teased her. That was long ago, and things would be better now. By the way, as an adult she is mad that I didn't insist on her speaking Spanish! Daniel's first language was Spanish, but when Marisa stopped using it so did he.

Hi, Sarah! It's nice to have a younger person on the forum. It seems that there are so few of us in our twenties. I'm 24, unmarried, no kids, so we're at different points in our lives. But, I'm excited that you're here! Hope you stop by often. :)

Thanks for the welcome everybody :)

I miss you guys too! Idk how it happened. One day were swimming in a mud pit and the next... Well here I am. Lol
Maddie has grown so much. She looks like a woman. It's crazy. Little melon :/ not so little.

I never want my boys to be ashamed to speak Spanish :(

Whenever Sarah and the boys come over she usually brings her ipad and I saw recently that she had the swap up reading. Told her it was a great place to learn with many helpful people....AND that it's never too early to learn how she may want to teach her children.

She's had a warm welcome today....as always with "the gang".....

I'm pleased to hear the girls speak of home schooling from time to time...and to see Sarah genuinely interested warms my heart...for the boys.

YES the MUD PIT.....it's mentioned often here at the table. LOL LOL

Sundays, Sarah's husband works and so we get to enjoy she and the boys all day long after church. So nice having some of the kids live locally. LOVE IT. They just left for home.

Welcome to the Swap Sarah Catherine!!! xoxoxo
