e-ink touch - kindle or nook? which is better?

Postby JOY » Thu Feb 23, 2012 5:58 pm

I do NOT want to go with the tablet lite versions of either of these devices, so I don't want opinions of the Kindle Fire, Nook Color or Nook Tablet. I just want to know which e-ink touch reader do you think is best...and what you like about it :) I'm really close to acquiring one...but have to make up my mind before purchase.

I have NO way to try them out. The Walmart here has not set up the Nook Touch and they haven't completed the set up on the Kindle Touch. So, I can see what they look like, read some things from the Kindle manual and that is it. The Staples here advertises them both...but doesn't ever have them on display (well, they have the tablet ones).

So, I am leaning heavily on what I can glean from the internet. Reviews seem pretty evenly balanced for both of them on the techie sites, but I'm not a techie, I want real world reviews :)

I have a Nook. Not sure if it is a Nook touch, it is one generation older than the current version.

I LOVE it. It is easy to load books. And I have learned how to load them onto a SD card so I have increased my storage greatly.

I have found it easy to navigate.

I love the buttons on the sides of the Nook so that if you are holding it with your left hand you can press a button on the side to turn the page rather than use your right hand to touch the screen.

I didn't have a choice in the matter, I was given this device. I have students who have Kindles (not Kindle fires), and I don't like the way they feel nearly as much as my Nook.

And, I have found just as many free books for the Nook as Kindle claims are available for the Kindle.

Myself personally, I don't have one. I've heard the kindle is pretty good.

I chose to go with the Kindle :) I know I'd be happy with either one...

If I were getting one I'd probably get the NOOK - just because a couple family members have those and you can share books.

so do you know anyone IRL with one? - probably not or you would've asked to look at it.....

no, I was not able to test any of them. Walmart has both of them, but neither is set up, so I can't test them. Staples has one ereader (though they supposedly sell them both) and I'd have to drive over an hour to any other store that might have them...my sister has an older Kindle, so I guess I can lend back and forth with her if we want to do that as I understand Kindles allow for a two week lend on some titles.

I have my Kindle Touch in hand (well, sitting in front of me while I type.

I do not mind the special offers. They give different screensavers and a little bar on the bottom...only when NOT reading a book, when I am at the home page, very non intrusive.

One of the things I liked about the Kindle Touch is that it has an MP3 player built in and the Simple Touch Nook did not. That really was the final deciding factor...I'm listening to music on it as I type :)

Nice!! Nope, I don't have any audio on my Nook. But, like I said, it was given to me and I am enjoying it very much. I'm glad you are happy with your purchase!
