I'm Tamie. We do have some homeschoolers that have students within the autistic spectrum (not sure if I said that correctly or even if that's what you are saying.)

Please jump in and enjoy the The Swap. We have numerous forums to read and to post to. As you get to know us and better yet, as we get to know you the Swap becomes part of our lives. There are so many people with so much to share here.

Tell us a bit more about yourself, your family and such.

I have one graduated homeschooler that is married with two children. I have one studying for her GED and should be done soon. She just needs to stay healthy long enough to get done. (Just diagnosed with severe allergies and is now taking shots to help reduce her sensitivities.) And I have a third student who will be 13yrs old next month. She loves to do her how studying with as little input from me as possible.

Hi! I have a just turned thirteen year old on the spectrum, ADHD and low cognitive skills. You'll find me venting about one or the other of those at any given time.... right now, the autismy stuff isn't bugging me, but the inattentiveness is on my last nerve!

And Tamie is right - there are a couple other parents with a child suspected to be on the spectrum (The parents I'm thinking of haven't had their child formally diagnosed) and at least one grandma with a grandson diagnosed. Also a couple parents with an adult child who is an Aspie. They'll all be along soon, I'm sure!

Welcome. Lots of advice and ideas passed around here.

I have home schooled 6. Oldest went to college her last two years of high school and is now married with 3 little girls. 2nd. daughter (dd) is engaged to an Air Force Communications Person. Our oldest son (ds) is active Army Guard, married and working on a Fireman's degree or whatever it is called. DD # 3 works with disabled adults, is married and the mother of 3. DD #4 is now 20, a manager at her place of employment. Our youngest ds is 12 and has Down Syndrome, he also has some mild autistic behaviors.

Welcome! Though I don't have any that have officially been diagnosed, my second would be on the spectrum. I have five: one working on a doctorate, one flying helos for the Navy, one about to head to U of WY and two others still at home.

There are a lot of ladies here with graduates or highschoolers!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! Our first 3 children are all girls who went to ps. We now have 4 beautiful grandchildren too! Been married to dear hubby almost 17 years (he had 2girls, I had 1and together we had ds). Our oldest graduated college and is now a dental assistant, our 2nd 2 are attending college part-time, and then there is ds who just hit 15 and says I'm pushing this homeschooling stuff too hard lol! I look forward to sharing with each of you and learning too!

Welcome! We raised 4 daughters (each of them homeschooled between 3 and 8 years--covering all the grades and some individualized special ed.) and now have 7 grandchildren--2 boys and 5 girls spanning ages from approaching 13 down to approaching 18 mo. There is also a geeky/nerdy/spectrumy thread that runs through the entire extended family through several generations so I have some experience dealing with that, too.

Anyway, all that is background to my question about your son. (If you want to share, of course.) How long has he been homeschooling and what in particular does he feel you are "pushing too hard"? Can you tell us more about him? What comes easily and what is more challenging for him? What is his day like and what does he like to do in his free time?

Hi Heidi, welcome to the swap. Do get to know us through the various forums. For many of us the swap is a vital lifeline! I'm still schooling my youngest 2 - they both are just on the spectrum and it makes for interesting stuff! There is much wisdom here and plenty of prayer support! Looking forward to getting to know you better.
