Pretty CREAM tote

I got the cutest canvas Land's end canvas tote (at a bag sale) that I'd like to use as a purse. It has an argyle (funny, IMO) print at the top, but the bottom is CREAM!!! It will show filth and be stained in no time. The handles are cream too. Any ideas on how to make it last longer than that pretty cream will last? Dye it? Paint it?
