Old Testament Bible study

Postby ShayChristie » Fri Oct 28, 2011 12:55 pm

I'm looking for an Old Testament Bible study guide for my 14 and 17yobs.

I purchased a Teaching Company course and we can't get through the first couple of lectures. This divinity professor is claiming Genesis is a myth, David most likely was not real, I think she compared King David to King Arthur.

I'd really like them to have to read the Old Testament and then have a guide with comprehension questions and discussion/writing questions. I did find free guides by book at padfield.com. Any thoughts on those or another suggestion?

This book is part of My Father's World 9th grade line-up. It's called Taking the Old Testament Challenge (you'll have to go down a bit to see the book.) I have not used it yet, but it supposedly goes through the whole Old Testament. You might be able to find samples on another site.

Alpha Omega probably has one, as does PACE, but PACE's is pretty dry.

I think that anything that teaches 'apologetics' will not declare Genesis as a myth.

There are a lot of Creation TV shows on now and their Bible studies are online (either free or to purchase). I'll ask Mark if he can remember then names of some of them. Ken Ham, Creation Museum, Answers in Genesis...

Thank you! I'll look into these. If anyone else has others to add, please do so.

David and I (at Sunday School) did Kay Arthur's Precept studies, but they are book-by-book, and very indepth. Probably not what you want.

Sounds like something I'd be interested in. Thanks! ;)

We've done many of them. Doing them the way they suggest takes hours and we didn't feel like being bogged down--but even just reading them and answering some of the questions is very good. And if you can find an actual study group, it's really helpful. The leaders can bring so much to the table. And all of it is using the Bible--not commentaries. It's not that commentaries are all bad or all good, but I love "just" using a Bible. We also did word studies with it, and I really, really like going back to the original word to find the original intent.
