Need Spanish help please! (curriculum)

Postby Stacy » Mon Aug 01, 2011 9:20 am

We bought Tell Me More Spanish by Auralog. It is much like Rosetta Stone. We can't get it to work.

Dd said she thinks she'd rather do Spanish from a book, rather than by a cd-rom. Any suggestions on a good program?

I don't know the curriculum you mentioned, and I don't know a good Spanish curriculum (we've used Rosetta). Have you gone to Barnes/Noble to see what they have? Believe it or not, they might have some good workbooks with CDs.

I have NO EXPERIENCE but just discovered that through our local library's web site there are about 13 languages taught at the student's pace. I've not looked into it but just thought I'd share with you.

I found a one-year set from Abeka for $40, so I'm going to use that. Hopefully, it will work better for dd.

Yes, it does include two cds. We tried listening to it yesterday, but I still think this is going to be a hard program to use. It is frustrating because #1 - It looks like a very hard program, #2 - It still expects a lot from me and that is tough when I'm working f/t, #3 - It expects that I (the teacher) am going to know Spanish, and I don't.

I think we will be using a lot of supplemental stuff from the library to earn this credit. I don't know how in the world we are going to manage doing 2 years of Spanish. I'm trying hard not to get stressed out over this, but I'm having a hard time.

Yes, it will be hard. My friend's son did half a semester of A Beka French years ago, and was able to skip two semesters of French in college (I can't guarantee that will happen to your dd!).

We ordered the DVDs course. It's $325, but I think it will be worth the money for the stress it takes off of me. I will be trying to take the course with dd, so that we can both learn to speak it together and help each other.

I just found out that I'm having new responsibilities added to me at work, so any help with school will be appreciated, thus the main reason I ordered the DVDs. There is just no way I can sit and try to teach her this class when I speak no Spanish, and no very little about the language.

The DVDs will come today by UPS.
