Recommend musicals, please!

I really haven't watched very many musicals on screen, so I went to the library and got a few that the librarian recommended to me. They really aren't for me, but rather for my mom, who can't really follow a plot any more. But she likes singing and dancing, so as long as there isn't swearing or too much skin, it's fine.

We watched "Hello, Dolly" last night (well, she did, but I didn't watch it the whole way through), and yes, it was my first time to see any of it.

So what are your favorite musicals? I need ideas for my next library visit.

Oh, I really like the music in Easter Parade. We have My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, Singing in the Rain. I've heard of Guys & Dolls, Cabaret, Meet me in Saint Lewis, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, West Side Story, South Pacific. I do not know anything about Music Man but just the name of it makes me want to see it. You must do Sound of Music.

Would she like the children's plot musicals like Mary Poppins, The Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella ... Annie is good but the new one from Disney is cleaner. There's less underwear flashing during the dance scenes and Ms Hannagan is not quite as floozy as when Carol Burnett played her. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is much too long but that might be good in some settings.

I didn't know the newer Disney Annie is better! I'll have to check that one out.... Most of Annie, I don't mind. But I make the kids fast forward through the sleazy parts (most of which are w/ Carol Burnett, if I remember correctly.

As an 11 yr old, I watched Bye Bye Birdie for 14 times because my sister worked in the theatre. I probably wouldn't think it's good now, but you might try it.
