Something silly you didn't know about me (for all of us)

Since this is the internet and very public, just make it light!!

My "something silly" is that I almost have to get all the toothpaste, hair gel, hand cream, conditioner, etc., out of a container. I have a toothpaste thingie to put on the end of it and slide up, but even after it's used up I try from the bottom up to get more out. It's not always a money thing since my conditioner costs $1.

Today I have to put out the recycling, I've had to throw away conditioner which has about half a teaspoon left in it. Oh no!

You are not silly. Dh will cut the toothpaste or tube of lotion to get the last little bit out. I put the $1 conditioner bottle under the shower head to get some water in it, shake and pour on my hair. Sometimes I do it a 2-3 times to get it all out.

I do the same thing....yet I throw leftovers away when they probably could be eaten.. how's THAT for consistency!

I so badly wanted my cups top side down in my cabinet but the daycare required that they be top side up.

Now that it's my choice again, they are in the cupboard either way they fit best.

It's so hard to explain to people WHY sometimes something is to be a specific way BUT not ... now or IF or whatever. You know, a woman's prerogative is to change her mind. But I have perfectly good reasons to do so... just explaining it to anyone makes it difficult.

We purposefully LEAVE spiderwebs on the front porch area because it cuts down bugs and dh and I like to sit on the swing and watch the spiders in the fall. While I am terrified of snake and mice, spiders don't bother me.

Oh, I do that as well. I cut tubes or bottles in half and store them in baggies so the inside doesn't dry out. I can get several more days' worth. And I dilute conditioner, but our shower head is a real water saver, so it takes a long time to get a little water in the bottle.

I save leftovers depending on who is going to eat them. David can eat anything of any age and not get sick. I'll keep things for him , but not let Madeleine eat them.

I do the same thing! But, it's only with shampoo/toothpaste/etc. that I truly like. If it's just an okay product, then I become lazy and toss it instead of getting every little bit out.

Something silly you didn't know about me: I am a lip balm fanatic. I have different lip balms for different types of weather and different times of the day, and I have my rituals for applying them (for example, I "layer" certain ones and wear others alone). The absolute best lip moisturizer I have found is actually A&D ointment. I apply it at night as a deep lip treatment. Okay, I'll stop before I start to sound really crazy.

I'm not really a fanatic about getting the last shampoo or toothpaste out. I do try not to waste it, but it doesn't bother me to throw out a few drops.

Two things about me. I don't really care if the bed gets made in the morning--or at all. Dh likes it made each day so I do it for him when I'm the last one out. He also knows I don't care, so he DOESN'T make it when he's the last one out.

I also like to listen to my music pretty loudly. (No lectures, please. I'm 46 and I'm not gonna change now. LOL!) Yeah, I'm pretty cool drivin' around in my Astro van with the music cranked...

LOL, Susan, when I was pregnant, I got used to crawling in bed for a nap. So, I'm now in the habit of dh's side of the bed being made nice and tidy and mine not! Someday, I'd like to do like Kelly and have two twin beds scooted together.

I cut open some lotions and shampoos, but not the super cheapo ones, those I water down and use the last while it is watery.

I crank up certain classical music, which probably sounds pretty weird. However, during most of the year our windows are rolled up.

I have a bad tendency to own largish objects that I rarely use, but still like to have around for the rare occasions that I do use them... a piano, a KitchenAid mixer, a sewing machine... but I did use the sewing machine today for the first time in a long time. And I think I played the piano a couple of weeks ago. As for the KitchenAid, I need lessons and something to use it for that isn't just a meal for two!

I don't buy cosmetics without getting a free gift. It doesn't matter how badly I need a particular product, if they aren't offering a free gift, I'll wait. Even if it's not "gift-time", they will usually throw in something else in for me. I have TONS of those free gift bags full of travel size products from Lancome, Clinique, and Estee Lauder, and most of them have never even been opened. I usually save them for gifts for my neices.

I also have a bag fetish. I have a huge collection of totes, duffles, suitcases, purses, reusable shopping bags, etc. I can't even tell you how many I have. I did toss some of them about a month ago, but I still have a huge basket full in the corner of my closet.

Another thing about me is that I like to be prapared for anything. Most of my family and friends tease me about carrying around a huge heavy purse, but they all know I'm prepared for almost anything. Very seldom does someone ask me for something that I don't have in my purse or car. Most of the time they are requesting stuff that most people wouldn't think to carry with them, but I usually have whatever they are looking for.

I really really don't like the feel of lotion between my fingers, or on the palms of my hands....but I do like it on the backs of my hands.

Most of the blankets in the house tend to flock to my room.

Toilet paper has to be over. If it's under, I'll pull it off and fix it, even at work.

Today, I learned that I'm a whole year younger than I thought. I'll be 46 next month, but I thought I was going to be 47. I feel so much younger now!

I thought I was 33 for 3 years. I actually remembered when I no longer was 33. So, from 30-33 I thought I was 33.

I pick things up with my toes...instead of bending over...and most of my kids do, too...
Additionally, I do not "clip" my toenails...I peel them off with my fingernails...unless they get stuck...at which point I bite them off...which my husband HATES...most of the kids do this, too...which he REALLY hates...
I am giggling as I write this...I know...it's gross...but...you ASKED...
Oh...I also have a thing with how I eat pancakes and eggs...I mix up the eggs, sunnyside up, and the pancake...with syrup over both...the runny yolk, and syrup...yum! I did not know till I was a teen that people ate them separately...my kids also LOVE this...which, again, grosses hubby out...
Good thing he loves me.

A lot of women love to buy shoes but that's not me. I really don't care what I wear on my feet for the most part. I do buy really expensive sneakers once a year but other than that, I can go years without buying a new pair of shoes. (I DID buy a pair of satin flats for my wedding... but they hurt my feet and I am trying to sell them...) However.... I DO have a 19th century shoe fetish. I have bought more Civil War Era reproduction shoes in the past 3 years than I've bought modern shoes in 10 years! In fact, I was just thinking that I needed to decide what new pair I want this spring.... :-) Weird, I know!

What to do? What to do?! Actually, if I want either of these pairs of shoes... I need to get them soon so I have them for the summer. I already own a pair of rust wool side lacer's... so I'm leaning toward the cream and black ones!

When I was little, I used to HATE chocolate. I even remember telling my middle school teacher that I was allergic (are people actually allergic to chocolate?) when he offered me a tootsie roll for helping clean up.

As I write this, I am currently eating triple chocolate fudge cake. Thank goodness that phase is over.

You all sound very normal to me.

I love chocolate, but I've given it up to see how long I can go without it and how much weight I'll lose. So far, after a peanut butter-less and chocolate-less month, I've lost no weight.

I also used to pick things up with my feet. After my accident, it became more difficult. And I don't clip my toenails, either. I never have. I don't bite them, however. Not quite that flexible. I just peel them when they grow, but I don't have any big toe nails because of surgery.

Toilet paper should be over. I won't usually change it, however.

I don't like buying shoes. I could care less. Tamie will remember that I used a pair of Nikes for years and years. Now I usually use Crocs.

I'm the same as Christine. I try to get as much out of conditioners, toothpastes, etc., but yet I will often pitch leftovers because they've gone bad. I do try to use as many leftovers as I can for my lunches, but still, we end up pitching something every week.

See if I can get this to stay this time - I tried last night and lost it all!

I like being at lights or a junction in the car, with the kids playing their music through our sound system in the car and really turning it up loud and up the bass!! Especially when there are a load of young people all hanging around. You know when you hear that booming bass and you all look round to see which car it is coming from - and you pick out the boy racers! Only this time everyone looks round and sees this large older lady doing the head dance bit and tapping out time with my fingers on the steering wheel and apparently oblivious to everyone staring!! Such fun!

And another thing I like doing - there is one junction particularly from one road down onto a two lane road - there are two lanes at the top with the lights. You get some of those fast sporty types revving impatiently at the red light - I love love love it when I can get my act together and pull away quicker than they do and speed off in front of them! Only when it is safe to do so of course! Then I just let them know that I can beat them then I slow down and let them over take - they always look back to see who it was - and they see this large older lady!! And sometimes I wave at them too - the kids are usually in hoots of laughter at their faces! Did it once a few years ago - a man in a cool racing car overtook us when I was driving the minibus. Oldest dd was at the front with me, as he overtook I waved at him and as he pulled in front and then had to slow for the queue of traffic he looked back and waved at us! Shouts of laughter! I know we are slightly strange.

I love chocolate, but now I'm allergic to it. Yes, people actually can be allergic to chocolate.

My silly thing--I love to sing. I have trouble listening to music without singing along. This is true even if the music has no words--my soon-to-be-ex used to get really annoyed when I "sang" along to things like Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Stuff like this I usually use syllables like "dee, lah, dah" but I do sometimes make up my own words.

I inherited this trait from my dad, who is infamous for making up goofy songs to familiar tunes. He even used to make up songs for his classes before he retired, much to my embarrassment. (Kindergarteners might have found it cute, but he taught at the college level.)

I'm a Hummer. No, not the big vehicle, the sound.

I hum pretty constantly and don't realize i'm doing it. People will say, "what are you humming?" and I have to think about it because I'm so NOT conscious of doing it. It's actually pretty funny sometimes because what I'm humming is often indicative of what my mindset is. If I'm trying to do some something quickly, I'll usually be humming the William Tell Overture (Lone Ranger music). If I am concentrating to learn something and going very slowly, "Duke of Earl" is often the song of the moment. I can hear a tiny snippet of a song first thing in the morning and someone will notice me humming it hours later. A line in a sermon will have me humming a hymn with the same line.

Another oddity - I HATE for my food to touch on my plate.

That's so neat to know! I'm laughing about the food. Veronica is the opposite. She'll mix it all together until it looks disgusting.

(are people actually allergic to chocolate?)

I don't know if people can be allergic but I figured I was when I was growing up cuz every time I put chocolate in my mouth I sneezed; I still do if it's really dark and to this day I'm not fond of chocolate whatsoever.

Only this time everyone looks round and sees this large older lady doing the head dance bit and tapping out time with my fingers on the steering wheel and apparently oblivious to everyone staring!! Such fun!

I do this all the time when I'm in the car by myself....I LOVE to dance....just dance, it'll be okay, do do do....just dance, to the record, babe, do do do, just dance....probably the rest of the words aren't nice

One of my silly things is my nighttime ritual. I puff up my pillows, I pick up my book, place the bookmark on my dresser by my bed, read for a while, take the bookmark off the dresser, put it in the book and lay it down on the little wood thing by my bed, turn off the reading light, lay on my back for about three minutes (this is a throwback from when the boys were babies and I would finally get them to sleep, come back to bed and lay on my back for a while to stay awake to see if they would wake up...I can't sleep on my back at all), turn over on my left side with my right arm down and my left arm across me and then I fall asleep....this is my ritual just about every night.

I can not stand to have my foods touch each other on my plate. I can not make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I will do one side than the other and the kids have to put them together. Just watching them do it almost makes me gag. I don't know why.

We have a huge goldfish that we've had since the kids were little- (he is ANCIENT for a fish).. and I always used to take the tank apart and super-clean it (like scrub and sanitize..icky) in the spring.. (I keep it full and cleanish the rest of the year but not spic-and-span, you know?)..but the last 5 years or so instead of cleaning it, I just (stealthily) went and bought a new tank rather than going thru all that mess.. Everyone would rave about how clean and beautiful it was.. and I never said a word (except "Thank You!") This year I finally fessed up to DH that I hadn't been cleaning the tank..I thought he'd be upset at the "waste" of money- He thought it was hysterical!

And I love going to Chinese Food Buffets and mixing different dishes together (on my plate,. of course..lol) to create new combination dishes.. Yum.. Its like a combination of arts and crafts and deliciousness.. ;-)

I think Liza may be a winner. Buying a new tank each year instead of cleaning it really made me laugh. I would never have thought of that.

Did you donate the old ones? I'm sure whomever got the old tanks were thrilled at getting them for a bargain price.

I will be laughing at this for a long time. So will my sister. And she will be wondering why SHE never thought about it. By the way, we've never had a goldfish last that long. I wonder if you're on to something? Seriously!

Liza, that's hilarious! I can just imagine the pile of fish tanks in your garage

There are a few things that I don't find odd at all, but all me friends and family do ~ I am a phobic about someone touching my straw or drinking out of my drink. You would think most people would be like that, but apparently not. I usually take my own drink if I go to visit someone, or even to potluck meals or family get-togethers (not to restaurants). People tease me about it all the time, and they are constantly trying to pull pranks on me about it. My brother has tied the bottom of my straw in a knot and put it back into my cup so when I tried to take a sip, nothing came out. And one of my neices put orajel in my straw once so that when I took a drink, my mouth would go numb. They even cut my straw really short once, so that it didn't reach the liquid in mu cup. It has become like an olympic sport in our family to think up new ways to mess with my drink.

Another thing is that I can't stand sweet drinks of any kind. Not soda, sweet tea, milk shakes or anything. Drinking something sweet gags me. And if I eat dessert, I have to eat it first, then my meal, as I can't stand to have the sweet taste left in my mouth. I would prefer salty over sweet anyday.

All my kids share everything, but if someone drinks from my cup, it's theirs now. I don't use a straw because it makes wrinkles around my mouth get deeper. Wish I'd thought of that decades ago....

Liza, you & me think alike! Anything is better than cleaning an algea-crusted aquarium!
& I learned somethin here...I never knew there are adults with baby teeth.

Silly about me? I stop the car, roll down the window & try to start up a conversation with any deer standing beside our rural road. They look so intelligent & it's easy to imagine that they might answer back in English. Instead, they usually dash into the woods, but there is always a brief moment that I do expect a verbal response.
