Epi-pen WAS COVERED. A double pack (plus a practice one) for $1. We are trying to decide the best locations for them. I told MQ to read ALL that came with it to ensure the best possible results. I'll have to talk to her to see if she did and if there's something WE should know.

I've been to camp and back to I do not know what she has done.

Do NOT leave them in the car--ever. It's either too hot or too cold. Epipens are very fragile and have a short expiration date. I bet the ones you just got expire in June of 2013 or something (rarely over a year).

We've always paid much more, so you have good insurance.

Thanks for the note of the CAR... MQ's pen expires Sept 2012!!!

I am so glad the pen is covered because I was afraid of the cost.

Actually, I was going to say that I bet her epipen expires this year, but then I thought that maybe it would be better where you are because you're not as remote as we are.

How ridiculous that they expire so quickly--especially when we pay a fortune for them!

Hey Tamie,
I'm just now seeing this. Did MQ ever get her epi-pen? The generics may not be available right now. Our local pharmacy has been out of the generic for a while. William's pen expired and I had to get a new one and had to get the name brand. Our local pharmacy is great to help with prices and generics so I do trust they were telling me the truth.

MQ was told that there were 3 but when it came right down to getting one, she had to get name brand. We really don't know more about the generics than that.

Tomorrow MQ goes to Ann Arbor, U of M. She has a 3 hour appointment. I'll let you know more if there is more to know after that.

I have never seen generic ones. I have been getting one yearly for for almost 40 years. Will have to check into it. They use to be good for 2 years, expiring in the fall. The last few years I get a new one in the spring and they expire by Feb. or Mar. the following year. I don't even have it a full year. Grrr.

MQ has had ANOTHER reaction in which her throat swelled. It was not as fast nor as severe but she knew to take benadryl sooner. Problem is, she would NOT take the epi-pen. She did not want to give herself the shot nor did she want the obligatory ER visit. Since she took 4 benadryl tabs, I was not comfortable with her taking the epi-pen. They did not give one to her in the ER since she had had 3 benadryl tabs...

I kept a close eye on her and when I could no longer watch her, I asked her if she was better and had a 14yr old keep an eye on her. She only improved, as I expected.

Anyway, as I said before, she's going to a specialist TOMORROW. They allowed her to restart her antihistamines due to this reaction to a dusty room.

I don't see how they can test her since she's had antihistamines, but I certainly understand the need for the medication. We keep liquid benedryl around. Works much faster than tablets. We get the generic and it works well.
