I've also used weight on the back of a toddler. It was a paper bag filled with a few books.

You put a weight on the back of a toddler? As a person who remembers her toddler days (yes, I do), that would have freaked me out.

bad habits that will (apparently) destroy his ability to sleep well later in life

hmmm..... I guess Tori DOES have bad sleep habits - she sleeps for HOURS...LOL :rofl

I slept with T and nursed her whenever she wanted. I remember by about 7 or 8 months, she's just nurse while I slept! I'd wake up to her fussing and pushing at me later in the night, I'd grab her, roll to the other side and she'd nurse that side while I slept. repeat as necessary. :greengrin

Madeleine didn't take naps and she slept with us until she was 10 (and in the early years would nurse through the night). Because of hockey practice schedules and other things, she was frequently up until past midnight, and would wake up around 10-11 am (which we liked so that I could work with the others). After ten years old she slept in the corner of the attic until age 14. She sleeps very well now (in her own room because she inherited Vinnie's room when he got married). She has no sleep problems, and gets up early for ballet. Guess her sleeping ability wasn't destroyed! ;)

If you'd have seen her sweet little smile, you'd have known it did not freak her out. She liked the weight. It helped her to remember to be still. Hmmm, maybe she was more like preschool age now that I 'see her face'. I think she was closer to 3. She got a special treat if she stayed down for the full nap. (They came in during nap so it was not as long as the full nap period. I do not remember how long it was but most of the time, it was pretty long. 1-3 if we are remembering correctly. That would be STARTING to go down, everyone to potty, diapers and such to getting up so it probably was more like 1:45-3.

They use weighted vests for some kids with autism. It helps them to control themselves.
