getting rid of mice

Postby RobinS » Fri Sep 16, 2011 5:09 pm

Which is better for getting rid of mice: a trap, or bait?

I'd like to have a cat some day, but am not ready to take that step yet...

A trap you have to empty. If you have a lot of mice it might be faster.
Bait they eat it and wander off, dying wherever--- in the walls, under things etc.

We use traps indoors, and bait in the garage and storage sheds.

I agree with Cindy. I killed and disposed of 6 (I think) mice in a matter of 24 hours. I wanted FAST results.

Cats are unreliable. Some are not mousers. And if it is a mouser, it might leave little "presents" for you....like decapitated rabbits. :eek :barf

When we moved in I caught 8 mice immediately. Then there were a few who just wouldn't be caught. I fooled around trying for QUITE a while moving traps and trying different things (and pulling my hair out in frustration) and caught one now and then, but I knew there was ONE still. Finally, I put poison out where little one couldn't get it. The mouse STUNK horribly somewhere under the house (crawlspace) for 2 weeks, then stunk less for another week. But, it was finally DEAD and I was happy. We kept getting a mouse now and then until we got a new garage door that fits tight. You might need to put stripping or something so the mice don't get in with ease. My children will YELL, "shut that door" to anyone that leaves that garage door open (they get that from their mama)!
I'll pray too...I HATE mice. Of course, make sure they can't get to any food. Tins or fridge or freezer. Plastic doesn't even work. My sister had them chew up her Tupperware!

Do you live in the country?

No, not in the country. I'm theoretically in the middle of the city (only 2 blocks from the library!) but...all of the homes here are on large-ish lots (mine is 1/3 acre), and there's an open space preserve less than half a mile away.

Wildlife seems very abundant in Colorado, even in the city, compared to what I saw in California. There are families of bunnies that live in the Target parking lot, for example. So having mice is not really a surprise.
