Decluttering bug hit again

Postby Stacy » Mon Sep 05, 2011 5:47 am

That lovely decluttering bug has hit our home again. I've been going through my closet, spending 20 minutes here and there, until I get it finished. (It's amazing how much you can accomplish in 20 minutes when you set your mind to it!) I've pulled out a lot of stuff to send to the resale shop at the end of the month. I also took a few bags to the Salvation Army store.

Now we are working on dd's room. Over my 3-day weekend, we pulled everything out from under her bed and went through it. Now we are working on her clothing. I have a big stack of her summer clothing to save back for the resale shop next spring. I also have 3 bags of clothing to donate, and we are only about 10% done on her closet! YIKES! Yep -- the girl has a LOT of clothing! Much of it, she has been able to wear for the last 4 years, which has been nice. It sure saved on the clothing bill the last few years. However, she is developing a bit more, and still growing a bit taller, so some of that stuff is now getting tight or short. (And some of it --- I'm just plain tired of seeing!)

It feels so good to be getting rid of some of the clutter in the house. Next week, while I'm on vacation, I plan to clean out the kitchen cabinets and go through some of the bathroom stuff. The older I get, the more I realize that "less is more." As in, more peace of mind, more time to not have to be cleaning and organizing, more space in which to live, etc.

I think for me, it's also been the KIDS getting older - I didn't know what I might need for them when they were smaller and I had BOXES of things for them both to grow into. (Tori never made it some of the things from her younger but bigger cousin, lol)

Also I thought I might have another foster child someday, but I've let the license lapse, so getting rid of things because of that too.

But yes, I want my house to be bare again.

Moving was so cathartic for me. I've lived here for over 20yrs. I NEED to declutter but I find it difficult. I want an open house without things stacked everywhere but I must not want it bad enough.

SAme here. I've been decluttering! I always seem to do it around Christmas. I think it's because I have anxiety over knowing we will be aquiring more with gifts.

One of my sweet daughters is giving me a lovely Christmas gift: help with decluttering trouble zones. :luv
