High Park fire near my sis

Postby MAC » Sun Jun 10, 2012 3:57 pm

I just spoke to my sis--they are starting to gather for an evacuation, though I doubt it will come to that. The fire is still 4 miles away, but it blew up from 8,000 acres to 14,000 acres in just a few hours. They've evacuated Masonville--the little town up the road. Her dh was out all morning building firebreak around a widow from their church's house. They can't find one of my sis's cats, so if they have to go, the cat have to be left behind. Our Scout troop headed out today to camp, about 10 miles north of the fire. And dh is out on a fire call here. Please pray for all!

eta: one good piece of news--the fire can't run too far one direction as the Hewlett fire burned that section out in May!

There are some major fires out there! I hope Walt isn't going to be horribly busy all summer, but it sure seems like he might. Praying!

Hannah's now red-carded so is hoping to go out on a hot shot crew. I'd just as soon she start with a slightly smaller fire! Walt can't go anywhere, as he's chief now. And quite frankly, too old. There's a fire down by Durango (Animas Mtn). They're having trouble with it because their hot shot crew is in NM. Yeah, it's going to be a long summer... The High Park went to 20,000 acres in just a few hours. 0% contained. It did a wierd swing-around on itself thing. They're saying now probably one fatality so far. All they can do now is pray that the wind goes down. So much of that area is beetle-kill. It was only a matter of time before it went up.

41,000 acres--that's bigger than Pittsburgh. It's now big enough it's creating its own weather...

Praying for rain, wisdom and strength for those fighting the fires and peace and safety for the families whose home could be destroyed by the fire.
