Kayla Update: On Saturday Kayla opened her eyes. She wasn't really responding to much of anything, but at least her "peepers" stayed open for a bit at a time.
On Sunday, Cody said she followed him around the room with her eyes, with slight head movement.
I thought I posted this but guess it didn't go through.
Update from Cody's mother.
Monday night, saw even greater improvement. She would squeeze Cody's hand when asked to squeeze it for yes or no questions, and when they did some physical therapy with her legs, and asked her to push back, she did. She is not speaking yet, but the tracheotomy they put in her may have something to do with that. Also, her face which had looked pretty bad at first has healed completely with hardly a trace of scarring. She had been tanning before the accident, so where her skin had been lacerated, she now has white patches, but they feel that it will be fine with a bit more healing. She also still has a bit of pneumonia.
Cody asked a nurse tonight how she felt Kayla was doing. The nurse said that actually everyone was talking about how extremely fantastic she was doing for the amount of brain trauma she had, and though she couldn't say they hadn't had a patient come so far so fast, she did say it was a very rare occurrence. I say, "Amen"! Chalk it up to good doctors, many prayers, and believing!
I think Cody told me they will probably be putting her skull bone back in on the 5th. Don't quote me on that date. He also said that the nurses told him she is very aware of where she is, but not about exactly why she is there. I think she does know she was in some sort of accident. They are waiting until they know she has good comprehension and a little more healing before they tell her the details or ask her if she remembers anything.
I will update again, as more things progress.
Thank you everyone for caring, prayers and encouragement for Cody. I know he appreciates it, as will Kayla once she is aware of all that went on on her behalf.
