motorcycle accident

Postby teachermom » Fri Mar 09, 2012 3:15 pm

We were going to get the van's emissions checked and I started to turn in (left, across the traffic lane) and then saw a motorcycle coming very fast at us. I stopped, but I guess it startled him and he lost control. He was VERY far up the road. (80-100 yards?) All my kids and I could do was sit and watch him. He fishtailed a couple times and then went down. He ended up right by my driver's side door with the motorcycle going a few more car lengths. He seemed to be okay. The emissions people called police and ambulance and they took him in, though he was walking, with only a few scrapes on his face. NOT wearing a helmet. :no

Now we are worried (our word against his) that he will say that I cut in front of him. I startled him and I feel bad about that, but I was completely stopped and watching the whole thing from MY lane (possibly the tiniest bit of my bumper across the line - POSSIBLY). sigh

Prayers that he IS okay AND that he tells the truth.

Well, you did have a bunch of witnesses with you. That should help. Do you have a helmet law in your state? He could get cited for that.

Praying!

The police officer called me Saturday. The guy had two broken ribs and some road rash, but generally fine. He won't be sending a copy of the report to me because I am in no way at fault! yay! The man did say that I had pulled into his lane and then backed up?!? but said that I was NOT in his lane and he just lost control. I did NOT back up and the police officer said he would note that we disagreed on that in his report (make sure my side was in there too) but that it was totally on the motorcyclist to get his bike fixed and take care of his hospital bills. whew!

Praying. So glad my dh sold his Harley years ago. I'm not fond of them (though I grew up riding on them).
