A friend today told me about flat simon. I did a google search and came up with mostly flats (as in appartments) for sale in 'simon' court or something like that. There was a fb page called flat simon which I think might relate to this, but I wasn't that bothered to look. I'll tell you what my friend said.
A friend of hers from Dublin (my friend originates from there) has her daughter going to school and the school decided to do a 'flat simon' project.
The daughter sent my friend's ds a coloured in picture of a boy on a page - and then my friend took her ds with flat simon all over our area and her ds wrote about his activities with flat simon and is now in the process of sending it back to the daughter. Her 'project' with go up in the school with all the other ones - the idea being that everyone sends flat simon to a friend who does what my friend did with her ds, and returns everything and the school has this great display of all the places flat simon visited!
I thought we could maybe have a little fun here. We could each draw a flat simon (I had hoped that the google search would produce a page with one we could all print out). We could take it shopping, to the zoo, or ballet, or whatever activities we do - take pictures and then find a way to display them all. I haven't thought that bit out yet - but I think I could set up a web page with some help from my ds - then we could each print them out if we wanted to keep as a hard record.
Does that make sense? Apparently it refers to a book written in the 60s in Canada - the character Simon was flattened (can't remember how) and was then posted back home or somewhere - can't remember all she said, but I thought, as she was talking that we could really have fun with this - we don't need to worry about postage costs, we can take pictures of various souvenirs or places etc. and get the kids to write a little - we will have a whole range on the site - from the 16/17 year olds (if we can encourage them to take part) right down to some of the new little ones just starting out.
What does anyone think?
