I don't expect any of you to have heard of him! He was a member of parliament for a number of years (lots of years). He became deaf I think in his 30s. Profoundly deaf. He campaigned for disabled rights. Until he was in Parliament they had no facility for disabled members - he had answers and speeches noted down for him so he could follow in debates and ask questions. Because of him there has been govt. help for people to have their houses altered if needed, public facilities increased for people in wheelchairs, hearing aids etc. much more readily available. He was a good man (even though he was a politician!!). He was 89.
