John MacArthur has audio Bible studies on his Grace to You website. The one listed today is on 1st Peter. He teaches line by line, precept by precept. I've always been blessed listening to John MacArthur.

http://www.gty.org/Resources/Audio+Bible+Study

Welcome!

Welcome to the swap's bible study corner! This place is one where we can spend time studying God's Word. Anchored in God's Word forum remains the 'room' where swappies meet to discuss things and post devotionals and other shorter items that are inspirational. In this room, we have the space and time to dig into longer studies.

Every known swappie is invited to 'host' as well as to participate in the studies when possible. We will allow multiple studies at one time since interests will vary. Please consider organizing a study even though you may not have the confidence. The members will help carry on the discussion. Organizers may lead back-to-back studies.

Reinforcing others is important in this journey. There may be chapters in which you have nothing further to comment and other chapters in which you nearly write a book. Members may not always agree with another poster. Please be careful in how you state your disagreement. Any attacks or inappropriate posts will be deleted by the moderator/admin.

Anyone desiring to organize a study should do the following:

1. Be a known Swappie.

2. Be sure that you can commit to this responsibility or share the responsibility with another person.

3. Prayerfully choose a book from the Bible or a Bible study book. Contact the forum's moderator with your idea.

4. Organize the material for posting without infringing on copyrights. This should include information for potential members that would help in their own scheduling. Something similar to listing how often you plan to post (weekly, M-F, M-W-F, or M-Sun, whatever) and how long the study will continue (8, 10, 12 weeks). You won't want to move too quickly, however, dragging it out could be problematic.

The organizer should choose one thread title and be consistent in using it throughout the study. For example, a study on Believing God, would have these type of thread titles: "Believing God, Introduction", "Believing God, Chapter 1, Part 1", or Believing God, Chapter 2, Part 2a. This will keep the material organized for easy reading and archiving. All relevant discussion should remain in that particular thread. This is the only way that more than one study can take place at the same time.

All studies will be archived when completed.

Please pray for this forum and those leading the studies. Pray that the Lord would bless all of us and bring us closer to a walk in His image.

One candle is added to the menorah each night. The first night, you light only the shammus (the one at a different height) and one Chanukkah candle. By the eighth night, you light all of the candles. A special blessing is said the first night.

Shehecheyanu (first night only)
Blessed are you, Lord, our God, sovereign of the universe
who has kept us alive, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this season (Amen)

Candles should be added to the menorah from right to left (like Hebrew writing). The shammus candle (called the servant candle) is lit first. Why the shammus candle? The Chanukkah candles are for pleasure only; we are not allowed to use them for any productive purpose. We keep an extra one around (the shammus), so that if we need to do something useful with a candle, we don't accidentally use the Chanukkah candles. The shammus candle is at a different height so that it is easily identified as the shammus.

While holding the shammus candle, recite the following blessings. They are usually sung

Blessing over Candles

Blessed are you, Lord, our God, sovereign of the universe
Who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us
to light the lights of Chanukkah. (Amen)

Blessing for Chanukkah

Blessed are you, Lord, our God, sovereign of the universe
Who performed miracles for our ancestors in those days at this time

After reciting the blessings, use the shammus to light the Chanukkah candles from left to right (newest to oldest).

Candles should be left burning until they go out on their own. They must burn for more than half an hour. Standard Chanukkah candles burn for about an hour.
