Elijah's visit

Elijah spent the night and most of today with us. Overall he did very well here. At one point Jaime told him to come into my room and ask me something. He was clearly upset about coming into my room, probably because he knows he's not supposed to. He was arm flapping right afterward. Last night when Cody and T (18yos & gf) were leaving he was really aggressive, acting like a tiger. He never did even tell T bye or make eye contact with her. Cody picked him up and rough played a bit.

I realized that if his mind is preoccupied, like with computer, drawing, etc then he doesn't do those things (stemming, acting like animals, etc) as much. So I wonder if we should be gently pushing him to go outside his comfort zone or back off if we notice these things.

Kodie constantly confuses 6 and 9.

At what point should it become a concern?

Academically...I would say she is at K-1st grade depending on subject area.

While in part I think it is normal for that age/level.
We keep working on it, but she really has not shown any progress.

Sharing my ideas.....

Until I acquire a Math u see......

these are my ideas....

First... I like the idea of color coordination. She does however need something structural to place the objects.
So First idea...
Mancala board and pieces.....
There are different colors and different spots. She can use one color per number 4 + 2 and put each one in a different shallow cup on the board... then count and she can *see* them and *see* the ones she has countesd.
We tried this yesterday and she loved it... I can see how I need tohone it a bit... but worthwhile.
Next idea... Chinese checker board and pieces... The marble one is too noisy and distracting. BUT i have a wooden one with different color pegs... Hmmmm, an idea...

Next Connect four.... I do not have this game anymore... BUT again she would be able to put each number she is adding in a slot and it is a tactile and visual display.....

I will keep you updated if you like...

I am enjoying this so much!!
