I may be freaking out prematurely, but here it goes.

My oldest does NOT get math! We've had issues since day one(as in 1st grade!) and I just kept going, switched curriculum once or twice and still, he's not getting it. He started in ps and didn't do well in math. Took him out hs and use Miquon. I thought he got it, until we were done and no retention.

Switched to MUS and he did great at first and then kept hitting walls. He'd finally make progress and then hit another wall. After Pre-Algebra, he couldn't pass the readiness test for Algebra. Did Stewardship and still wasn't ready for Algebra. This past spring, we used Life of Fred Pre-Algebra for a review and hoped he'd get it.

He does fine day to day, but there is little long term retention. He mentioned at the end of LoF he was still confused by fractions! Are you serious? Do you know how often and how long we've covered FRACTIONS???

Please help me! We're supposed to start Apologia Chemistry and I was just going over it and it said Algebra was a pre-requisite. sigh.. I was going to attempt Algebra once again, but now I'm doubting it.

One thought was to go back and start over with LoF or get the Key to.. series and go over those concepts again. Or just try Algebra with either the MUS or LoF. sigh...

Any suggestions??

What would you title this course?

The class is using this book:
Thinking Like a Christian: Understanding and Living a Biblical Worldview (Worldviews in Focus Series)
http://www.bookfinder4u.com/detail/0805438963.html

Here is the description:
Surveys reveal that a majority of Christian young people walk away from Christ after four years of a university education. Why? Because they are no prepared to defend their faith in a world that, in most cases, presents ideas contrary to their biblical beliefs. This 12-week curriculum, interactive study takes students on a journey into the world of ideas that are shaping our culture while teaching them biblical responses. Created for use in homeschools, Christian schools, Sunday school, youth groups and colleges, this one-of-a-kind study lays the groundwork in the 10 disciplines: Theology, Philosophy, Biology, Psychology, Ethics, Sociology, Law, Politics, Economics, and History.

Table of contents:
http://www.christianbook.com/C.....u=438963&slide=1

So, based on the above info, what would you call the class? (I don't want to use a "Christianized" title because dd will not be attending a Christian college.) Would it be classified as some kind of social studies course? Or would it be an elective course?

I have the argumentation dvds from The Teaching Company. Plus, I am going to use The Fallacy Detective and The Thinking Toolbox to complete the course.

Now, do you think dd still needs to take a speech course? Our local group is offering a once a week class, but it's clear on the other side of town. With me working, it would be up to dh to take her. He's already balking at the thought, and complaining about it.

So I'm trying to figure out if there's anyway that the above course would work at all for speech. Any thoughts?

We officially started school today, and it was at dd request. Gotta love it when a kid is self-motivated!

I printed out a schedule to help keep her on-task. I had her starting at 8:30. She asked me to re-do it, with a 7:30 start time.

I have a feeling she'll like starting earlier because she will get done shortly after lunch and have the whole afternoon to do whatever.
