I"ve never been in a Michaels.  I'd probably be in trouble if I ever were able to visit one.

It depends on what your town has to offer.

When our Toys R Us went out of business, Michaels moved into it.   For artsy stuff, it's really the only major store in town.  Hancock has yarn and fabric, but Michaels had scrapbooking stuff, art supplies, yarn (no material), decorations, classes, and much more.  Their prices are just okay, but their sales are good, and the 40% coupon is really good.

Btw, our Walmart still has fabric!

We don't have Michael's here, but we did get a Hobby Lobby last year.

I'd take Hobby Lobby over Michaels...we have none and our Walmart is losing it's fabric department in February so that leaves a teeny, tiny Joann Fabrics 8sigh

We have both Hobby Lobby and Michaels.  I shop at both.  One week Hobby Lobby has a 40% off and the next week Michaels has theirs.  As the holidays approach both stores will have their coupons every week.

For the first time, I saw a big price difference between the two on Prisma colors.  Michaels has its 120 set for $230.  DD and I were buying pastels and I was looking at the price because a friend of mine doesn't own the pencils.  I was shocked at how much they had gone up.  A few days later I was in Hobby Lobby and looked at their price.  It was $159.99 for the same set. *

*I am going to put a little disclaimer here.  Both sets have 120 pencils but now that I think  about it, Prisma has a new line that is more expensive.  It could be that Michaels was the upper line but still if you were buying the pencils I would be upset to have spent that much more.

Our Wal-Mart still has a craft department, including fabric. They have a very limited selection of yarn, though, and no wool yarn. I was thrilled  to finally be able to select from a variety of wool yarns, as well as sock yarns, without having to order it through the mail.

Our new super wm doesn't have fabric and now joanns is going out of business.  Our local phs kids that take the sewing class are now going to have to go out of town to get fabric and some of them either don't have cars or are on a very limited budget.
