That was my doctor's prescription today for me. No blood cells showed up in a U/A today, so she said she'd have a hard time convincing insurance to pay for a CT scan, but we're pretty sure I'm working on a kidney stone. I had one about 5 years ago, and I seem to remember this type of cramping going on for what seemed like forever before I went into ER doubled over in pain.
And, I have to admit I'm a little embarrassed because I was dehydrated. I think I've been unintentionally avoiding water after the bladder infection. If I'd been drinking the 2L every day anyway, I probably could have avoided this whole thing.
When I think there is a possible one I flood myself with water and drink hot tap water with as much lemon juice as I can stand. I don't wait for symptoms to get bad but do this at the slightest back ache (that ache on the side) and flush them stones away! I have not had a problem now in 10 years with this method. I of course also command the stones to dissolve so I won't have any issues but the water and lemon I think really does the trick.
DonnaMarie Too BLESSED to be stressed!

I actually got in about 2.25L, aside from the water I used to make my soup today.
DonnaMarie~I've heard lemon juice is very good for stones. There's a Coke/asparagus remedy online that I don't even want to think about. When I saw my doc yesterday, she said the very best thing is drinking lots of water. I was so embarrassed: dehydrated, and I know better.
My husband has been passing stones for about a week now. PUSH PUSH PUSH the water. His problem has been, in the past, is that he stays dehydrated most of the time. When one is thirsty is NOT when we need water...it's too late. We need to KEEP HYDRATED.

That is very likely true!
BIL, who has had kidney stones several times, does like Sharon said and, on his doctor's advice, pushes himself to drink extra liters of water every day--even carries a little water jug wherever he goes and drinks from it regularly. That's working, too!

You know, I've only ever had one kidney stone. I had had a laperoscopy and not long after that, I kept getting this momentary tinge of pain in my lower pelvis. It definitely felt like it was in the urinary tract. Tinge, gone. Tinge, gone. Tinge, gone. All day long. For days, then weeks, then a few months. Never lasted even a second. Just noted it was there. I thought, "Did he nick a nerve during that Lap?" I had had previous bladder infections and it felt like that, but ONLY for a split second.
Until the night I felt it and it stayed,...and grew...and I found myself pale and clammy and doubled over in pain on my bathroom floor and dh had to drive me to the ER. It was a stone.
It doesn't seem like my output is roughly equal with my intake. I also have trouble with having to go, but I never feel empty after going.
Shel, my urologist says that's what it feels like when you have a stone passing, especially if it's starting to block the thingie off. (well, it's not a thingie but I forgot what it's called) Praying for relief!
