Well, I've sort of tried the idea of throwing all the week's leftovers into one dish. The first attempt was just okay. Tonight, I made something of a shepherd's pie with leftover chicken, veggies, a can of mixed veggies, seasonings, cream sauce, and leftover mashed potatoes on top. Tesia noticed right away that there were some "recognizable" foods in it from other meals this week, so I was caught.
We now call this "Kitchen Sink Casserole", because everything's in it but the kitchen sink.
Timothy cooked so I could paint the bathroom last night. I like to paint the trim because I'm so picky. He took bits of leftovers from 5 other meals (potatoes and beans, pumpkin soup, spinach noodles, mashed potato with gravy and some already fried eggs) , mixed it, sprinkled taco seasoning on top, then crunched a few corn chips on that, then cheese. They ate it all and I got the bathroom painted!
That sounds similar to our refrigerator soup we're having for dinner. I "started" with a recipe for beef vegetable barley soup. But we cleaned the fridge for lunch and everything left went into the crock pot.
The leftover steak, IN! The leftover burgers, IN! Leftover meatloaf, IN! Leftover mixed veggies, IN! Leftover squash and zucchini, IN! Leftover brown gravy, IN!
I'll add the barley near the end.

Haven't tried it yet because we rarely have leftovers. But the idea still intrigues me. It did cause me to begin a similar "bag it" with left over raw veggies (ie. the celery ends, carrot tips, outer layer of onion, etc.) I am freezing it in a big freezer bag and will make my own veggie broth when I have enough (we go through soooo much of that here.)
