I went to see my endocrinologist today. I have PCOS, which is why I see an endocrinologist. I was put back on Glumetza (I had stopped taking it during pregnancy). I told my dr. that it would be helpful to me and kind of hold me accountable if she could tell me a healthy amount of weight I should lose by my next appt, which is August 28th. So 18 pounds it is. I think I can do it! All in all, I'd like to weigh between 120-130 lbs (I'm petite and small-boned and short!). That means, I'd have to lose way more than 18lbs total, but I'd rather set a medium sized goal instead of one huge one so I'm not overwhelmed.

My main plan is to exercise much, much more. I finally found an elliptical but I cannot pick it up yet. I'll probably get it within the next two weeks. That will help a lot because then I can get on it while the baby naps. We still take walks as a family. Today we were out walking for an hour. I plan on getting back on my rollerblades. That is really fun to me and I go for miles on those things because it doesn't feel like exercise to me.

I know I also have to work on changing my eating habits but I'll have to start with exercising first. My labwork showed that I still don't have diabetes, which I'm obviously happy about. I have something called hashimoto's thyroid something but labwork shows it's not acting up (or whatever she called it). My testosterone is high but I could have told her that.

With PCOS, being close to "ideal body weight" is good.  I have it too.  I was diagnosed at about 22yrs old.

That sounds great...you are already active, or at least you have normally had an active life.

18 pounds in five months?  Am I reading that correctly?  If so, that's very doable.  And remember my saying....."The slower it comes off, the slower it comes back on---and vice versa."  Slow weight loss is absolutely preferable to fast weight loss.  Your body adjusts better and can keep it off.

Well, I haven't been doing well with eating healthfully at all. HOWEVER   we do go for walks every evening right after dinner. We found a route that includes some pretty steep inclines. Also, we've found that we feel better if we walk immediately after eating dinner, instead of sitting down and feeling sluggish. So, that's a good thing that I'm happy about. Also, today the girls and I walked alone (dh was on-call all weekend so he was tired). We walked our new route but went further (including more inclines) and I timed it to be an hour-long walk. So, that's the walk I plan on doing every evening after dinner from now on. Maybe, I'll squeeze in a walk during the day, too, so I can get in two walks a day! I won't be able to get the elliptical after all but I really enjoy walking around the neighborhood.  I haven't weighed myself because I'm going by my doctor's scale so I won't know how much weight I've lost til August. I probably won't get to the 18 lb goal but I'm sure I will lose some weight.

Walking is GREAT exercise... and you are doing a lot of walking... so AWESOME job!!!! Even if you do not lose 18 pounds you will be healthier. If you want to lose the weight you could probably easily do so at that rate by just making a few changes in diet... but the exercise is at least as important. So, if you are not ready, fine, cause all that walking is strengthening your heart and body.

Way to go!

The kids and I just got back from our hour-long walk! Now after dinner, we'll all go again.

Took a 35 minute walk today. Had to keep it short because it looked like it might rain at any second.

Went for two walks yesterday. I don't know what it is but, for the first time, I don't cringe when I look in the mirror anymore. It can't be that I've lost weight because I don't think I have. I really think this is God healing my crazy self-image. Whatever it is, it feels great.

I'm also wearing the same size I did before I got pregnant, although I don't know how that's possible.

Rachel, let me know how you do. I honestly don't think I'll reach my goal. I've been trying to watch what I eat but I'm never good at that. That's why I try to make up for it by exercising (I actually like exercising...wish I could work more into my schedule). Yesterday, we walked for about two hours! Loved it! I'm talking fast walking, legs burning walking, walking up and down hills. Wooo! I love that burn!

Genesis

You will reach your goal slowly but surely!  I've been only averaging 5lb a month, but that's OK with me because I know I'm getting stronger and much smarter in my food portions and choices.  I don't 'feel' like I'm dieting, just feel good!

You keep on walking!

My appt was yesterday. I initially lost 25 lbs but gained some back when I went off the low carb diet. Still, as of yesterday, I had lost 16 lbs from my appt in March. I'm still happy about that. I need to lose much more but I don't have the willpower to make it happen, it seems. All of my numbers looked great from my labwork. To remind ya'll, I see an endocrinologist for PCOS. My sugars, insulin, c-peptide, TSH and all that jazz were completely within normal range. Even my testosterone was normal, which is odd. It went well.
