
Anastasia's Crockpot Apple Butter

Crockpot Apple Butter 2 qts applesauce (about 5-6 lbs apples cooked & pureed, or you can start with bought applesauce)
4 cups sugar
3 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. cloves
3/4 tsp. allspice
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. saltCombine all ingredients in the crockpot and leave on low all night. In the morning, assemble your jars, lids, etc. If the apple butter isn't quite thick enough yet, put it into a heavy-bottom pot and cook down for a while longer (it should mound slightly on a spoon when done, or another test is to put a teaspoonful out on a plate, if it liquid pools around it, then it will sog the toast - cook it down a bit more.) If you turn the crockpot on HIGH and take the lid off first thing when you wake up in the morning, you *might* not have to do any extra "cooking down".
When apple butter is cooked down properly, fill sterilized jars, adjust 2-piece caps, and place in boiling water bath canner for 10 minutes.
That's it! So easy, and such a wonderful gift. And, your house smells sooooooooo yummy while it's cooking!
