Shampoo & Hair Gel shared by Stacy

Shampoo:
1 c. water
1/2 c. liquid soap or inexpensive shampoo
1/2 c. glycerine
1/4 c. borax
Mix and let it thicken overnight.

Another one:
1/4 c. water
1/4 c. liquid soap (or castile)
1/2 t. light vegetable oil. (If you have oily hair, omit.)
Mix well.

I have used the first one for quite a while. I do have to lather it twice, but it is still cheaper than using the expensive brands that I'd been using in the past. It makes my hair feel very soft and smooth. DH loves the feel of my hair with it, provided I don't use gel to make my hair stiff! You can get the glycerine from a pharmacy.
You might call ahead first to make sure they have it, or at least can order it for you. I have only found one local pharmacy that carries it.
Homemade hair gel:
1 c. very warm water (not boiling)
1 t. unflavored gelatin
Stir the gelatin until it is dissolved. Pour into a container with a lid. Store at room temperature. To use: Put a little in your hand and rub hands together to separate it a bit, then apply to your hair like you would any other kind of hair gel.
