When I make grilled cheese sandwiches, I always make a lot of them, because I don't like having to stop in the middle of a meal and cook more if someone wants seconds. So, we frequently have two or three left over. Yesterday, I stuck the leftover sandwiches in a sandwich bag and put them in the freezer. Today for lunch, I recyled them like this:
We have a wide-slot toaster . . . you know, the kind that will fit bagels or whatever? I was able to fit the frozen sandwiches in my toaster to reheat them. I watched them carefully and popped them up as soon as the cheese started to melt, because I didn't want melted cheese all over my toaster.
It worked great! From now on, I'll probably make lots extra on purpose, to save time later. I could probably teach my children how to toast these, too, so they could make themselves an easy, fairly nutritious snack.
(I've tried reheating these in the microwave, but the bread is mushy and tough by the time the cheese melts.)
