This is the recipe I got from my MIL. She makes this at Christmas and Easter... I can't give precise directions, I watched and just do it. I only have a list of ingredients to work from.
1T yeast
1/4 c water
~combine to soften yeast
1/4 c sugar
1/4 c butter or oil
1 t salt
1 c scalded milk
~mix & when cool add
1 beaten egg
3 1/4 c flour
and yeast mixthis is a soft dough. Let double, punch down and divide into two. Roll out the dough into rectangles (I'm sorry, I do this by sight so I don't know what size). Spread with filling* and roll up from the long way. Then I cut down the center of the roll and twist the two sides. Bake in 350 oven for approx 20(?) minutes until bread is golden (I think this is the amount of time, I don't have that written in my notes). When cool drizzle with glaze made from maraschino cherry juice and powdered sugar.
*Filling for 2 braids
1/4 c flour
1.4 c melted butter
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c chopped maraschino cherries
1 c chopped nutsmix and spread on dough
