If you are having problems Logging In or Viewing things on the Swap here are some steps that we recommend that you follow to solve the problem:1. Empty your Temporary Internet Files (Tools>Internet Options>General Tab>Temporary Internet Files Pane>Delete Files)
2. Delete your Cookies (Tools>Internet Options>General Tab>Temporary Internet Files - from here it depends on your IE version: IE 6 - a button to "Delete Cookies", IE 5.x - "Settings>View Files Button" then highlight all the cookies and then "right click" and "Delete" )
3. Log In again.
4. Also, we are seeing that some folks with Norton Firewall are having problems accessing things because of the settings in the firewall, so if you are running that software, double check your settings. See this Archive Thread for recommendations:

5. Another problem with viewing the Swap involves checking to make sure your screen is being Refreshed after each access to a page. This was an initial problem that a lot of people had. The fix in Internet Explorer is:
TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>GENERAL tab (first page)>TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES (center pane)>SETTINGS button>"Check For Newer Versions Of The Page" => choose "Every Visit To The Page".
While that "window" is open, consider increasing the slider bar at the bottom of the page which will allocate more room for Temporary Internet Files. If it's set on or near "zero" one won't be seeing much.
6. IE's Cookie Manager can prevent you from accessing The Swap by blocking its cookies. Go to - "Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>Settings Pane." The simplest "fix" is to choose nothing above "Medium High" on the slider bar.
2/13/03: One user had to lower the slider to Medium before being able to login tonight.
If you MUST have it set to "High," IE will restrict the cookies that are required by the Swap. You will then receive the log-in page, however, the page will refresh to the conferences page, and you will not be logged-in.
If this happens you can override the privacy issue by "allowing" the Swap in the manage sites area. Click on "Edit" in the lower "Websites" pane and type in The Swap's URL(s) for the Forums - http://www.theswap.com/dcforum/dcboard.cgi - and Ads - http://theswap.com/cgi-bin/dcads/dcads.cgi - both of which allow you to mark what has been viewed, I believe.
NOTE TO NETSCAPE 7 USERS: Cookies can be managed by clicking on "EDIT>PREFERENCES>PRIVACY & SECURITY>COOKIES>ENABLE COOKIES BASED ON PRIVACY SETTINGS>VIEW>LEVEL OF PRIVACY and then click on "MODERATE". This will allow The Swap to set a cookie on your computer.
7. Finally, we have found that some Swappies have difficulty viewing portions of the Swap and especially the Curriculum Ads, the HTML Reference & Smilies Help menus after installing Pop-up Killers/Ad Blockers/Privacy Filter software to their computers. Be sure to either disable this software OR add the Swap as a site that ALWAYS ALLOWS POPUPS and KEEP THIS SITE'S COOKIES.
